Guide Dogs for the Blind
Using our power of partnering to improve quality of life

Here at the Cliffs we encourage guests to bring their dogs; welcoming them with the essential amenities for their loyal friends! As of September 2011, The Cliffs Resort is excited to make a difference by donating a portion of our pet fee to Guide Dogs for the Blind It was only natural to pair with an organization that has as much love for them as we do!

Guide Dogs for the Blind, established in 1942, provides enhanced mobility to qualified individuals through partnership with dogs whose unique skills are developed and nurtured by dedicated volunteers and a professional staff.

Now with two campuses, Guide Dogs for the Blind assists in breeding and training dogs, and then works to match partners with the dogs and support their relationships for a lifetime. With everything from retraining to veterinary expenses, a successful guide dog is a big investment, and we are happy to be a part of such a meaningful organization. For more information, please visit www.guidedogs.com and learn about this amazing group of people and dogs!"

Wine, Waves & Beyond:
A Benefit for AmpSurf

Wine, Waves & Beyond (amp;) is our classic surf and wine event that celebrates the best of San Luis Obispo County. Combining the fun, laid back atmosphere of our wine country and unique surf culture, enjoy four days of unforgettable events evoking the magic of wine and waves. These events take place at numerous scenic venues throughout San Luis Obispo County and all proceeds go to support the Association of Amputee Surfers (AmpSurf).

AmpSurf is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization, made up of amputees, veterans, friends and families of the disabled and depend on donations for our operation. Our Goal is to Promote, Inspire, Educate, and Rehabilitate people with disabilities, especially our veteran heroes through adaptive surfing and fun, safe, outdoor activities that all can participate in.

In 2010, our first year, amp; was able to raise $10,000 for AmpSurf, and continues to help support this amazing organization.

Sea Life Center

The Avila Beach Sea Life Center partners with The Cliffs Resort for our annual Shark Week geared to educate and entertain our Central Coast travelers about the true life of sharks. In 2010, the Cliffs donated a 350-gallon tank, and in return the Sea Life Center fills the tank with sharks and stingrays right in the lobby of the resort for Shark Week! Guests see live sharks up close, and with knowledgeable experts, they will learn all about the life of a shark and hear true stories of shark encounters. Watch sharks at feeding time, enjoy themed drinks and treats (sushi anyone?), and play games and crafts all about sharks.

The Avila Beach Sea Life Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring people to be connected to the ocean and the life within in through education and community outreach. With a dedicated staff and volunteer educators, docents, naturalists and biologists, the Sea Life Center is committed to providing programs that are beneficial and educational to the community. Through outreach, participation and collaborative efforts the SLC has built lasting relationships with local non-profits, school districts and businesses in the community.

Big thanks to the members of the Avila Beach Sea Life Center who help make our week of underwater excitement possible!

Kinsley Thomas Wong Benefit

This fun filled event at Dinosaur Caves park in Shell Beach is not only a great party, but thrown for a great cause! Mr. Kinsley Thomas Wong is a local world-class kite surfer who suffered a very serious accident while kite surfing in San Simeon. This truly remarkable man is recovering from severe spinal injuries while dealing with rising medical bills. Kinsley and his lovely wife Jamie also recently welcomed their beautiful baby son, Taizen, to the family.

Our first annual benefit was an exciting success, raising $25,000 for the family of Mr. Kinsley Thomas Wong. Festivities included a delicious array of foods, wine & beer, live and silent auctions, and local music from the band "CT and Tommy Lee". The Cliffs looks forward to supporting this family in future events.

For information on Mr. Wong, please visit his website at kinsleydonation.weebly.com.
